MJ Mastrangelo (Tap Teacher)
Mary Jo (MJ) was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She began dancing at the age of 5, studying Tap, Jazz, Ballet and Hip Hop. At the age of 17, she was asked to teach her first class as a substitute. A new passion had emerged. Over the next few years she taught her own classes and choreographed award winning routines.
To further her education, MJ moved to NY City to study at Broadway Dance Center and STEPS on Broadway under such greats as Joe Lantieri, Mia Michaels, Leslie Brown, Beverly Fletcher, Ruth Lawrence Doering and Frank Hatchett.
MJ's performance credits include "The Wiz", back up dancer for a recording artist, NBA half-time shows, and choreographing and dancing in a music video. She was the first Tap choreographer selected and featured in the prestigious Arizona Dance Festival and is the creative director of "Tap Fusion" an all adult Tap troupe.
You can see some of MJ's former students on Broadway, Vegas revues, dance companies, The Radio City Rockettes, cruise ships, and some have opened their own dance studios.
MJ resides in Anthem, Arizona with her husband Perry, "bonus" daughters Bella and Sophia, her father Joseph, and their German Shepherd "Groucho". She is very excited to share her knowledge with the Diamond Dance Works family!
